Cannabis Grow Journal #3: Start of Veg Stage
Veg Stage = starting in June, 2021
Big Bud & Watermellon Photoperiods 4X4 Indoor Grow
Notes and photos from start of veg stage:
July 7, 2021
I’ve started a new grow and am going to spend a little less time journaling about germination and Vegging plants because it is really so boring. I’m going be topping and using low stress training (LST) to the max. I will journal this but it won’t be a weekly thing.
GrowDaddy Soil / Coco Mix Recipe:
This grow is going to be my own “secret sauce” medium recipe (OK, not so secret … and experimental):
- 35% Fox Farm Ocean Forest
- 35% Canna Coco
- 20% worm castings
- 10% perlite
For every gallon of coco, I amend with 3 tablespoons of this veg nutrient mixture:
- 70% Gaia Green All Purpose 4-4-4
- 30% Gaia Green Bloom 2-8-4
Then I mix the soil with the amended coco.
I’m excited to see what I can do in this new medium.
Germinating Big Bud and WaterMellon Cannabis Seeds
I started Big Bud and WaterMellon from seeds about 5 weeks ago, give or take. I started them in peat pods and moved them into solo cups after germination. I had a bag Wappa seed and I f***ed up the germination by putting it too deep in the pod. I thought it didn’t germinate. It had germinated, but it hadn’t gotten through top yet. Live and learn. I really wanted to grow that seed.
This led to confusion due to me smoking while in the grow room. I started a couple more seeds and got labels messed up. I know I have two WaterMellons and one Big Bud. Not sure if fourth is a Big Bud or WaterMellon. That’s why two of them are smaller. They are a week behind in Veg.
Up-Potting the Big Bud and WaterMellon Cannabis Plants
I up potted into 1.5 gallon pots a couple weeks later… I should have waited longer. They weren’t ready for up-potting. I plan to up-pot in a couple weeks. I will wait until the plants are asking for water – at least every couple days – before I up-pot this time, so I have good root development.

Big Bud and WaterMellon are the seeds of choice this grow
