Indoor Cannabis Grow Equipment List

I have learned everything I know about growing cannabis by reading online, visiting shops, calling around, and asking other people for advice. Ultimately, my real lessons have come from actually growing the cannabis plants. Check out Mr. Fertilizer here in beautiful Victoria, BC Canada – I shop there all the time and they are great!

MY CANNABIS SEEDS: OG Kush

OG Kush Cannabis Seeds

I agonized a lot about where to buy seeds, how many to buy, but I did eventually buy some online.

I bought some OG Kush, some nice, traditional weed.

It came in some cool little blister-pack packaging. Although it only got sent from Vancouver to Victoria, if memory serves me,  I think it took an alarming amount of time. Happy ending, anyway, as they did arrive and they are doing GREAT.

I was lucky because I germinated 4 out of 4 seeds successfully in my Jiffy Peat Pods.

GERMINATION MEDIUM: Jiffy Peat Pods

I really pampered my seeds and germinated them in Jiffy 7 Peat Pods.

There are different ways to go about gemination, and I chose the peat pods.
It was a bit stressful for me to drop the little seedlings into their fabric pot when the time came.
I peeled the membrane off these pods before putting them into the fabric pots, even though I have since read that it’s not actually necessary to do that.
I felt that it would be better to be safe than sorry on this one.
You can also just germinate them in a fabric pot to avoid having to transplant, so I might just do that next time.

MY TENT: 4′ x 4′ Melanfarm

I was really looking for a higher quality tent, but availability was an issue, so I got a basic 4-foot x 4-foot tent. It’s actually been fine, to my surprise, although I do toy with the idea of getting a bigger tent. We are allowed to grow up to 4 cannabis plants here in Canada, and so this size tent is adequate but the girls do seem a bit claustrophobic sometimes.

LOCATION AND HEAT SOURCE: Ground Floor, Gas Fireplace

Main Floor Gas Fireplace

My grow tent is located on the first floor of the house, in a spare bedroom with open door to a den with a gas fireplace. This keeps the temperature right for the plants to grow.

We live mainly on the upper floor so there’s nothing infringing on our living space.

We’ll see about the smell later in the grow, although it’s already pretty smelly, just not unbearable.

LED GROW LIGHTS: Mars TS 3000

I will gladly give you a big lecture on LED Grow Lights for cannabis! I wrote a whole article about Grow Lights (click here). I actually bought the old “blurple” lights when I first started, and they were OK for the “veg” stage, but as soon as my girls started to flower, I really had to upgrade.

“Blurple” BESTVA LED Grow Light – for my veg stage

Grow Lights VEG STAGE:

This really wasn’t the greatest choice but the price was right.
I am considering using it as an experiment for a future grow but I decided to upgrade to the MARS for my first crop.
The “Blurple” BESTVA, when you go searching and shopping online, SEEMS like a rock-solid choice, but in practice, it just doesn’t have enough strength for the flower stage.

Grow Lights FLOWER STAGE:

I think I bought this light in the nick of time for the flowering phase of my first grow.
When I found, to my horror, that my  cheap little blurple  light was going to yield a very disappointing first crop, I dropped everything and bought the MARS TS 3000.
I do like to get a deal, so I shopped around, but I had issues with customer service that caused me a certain stress level as time ticked and my girls malingered with the old, inferior light on their brand new flowers.
I’m putting a link to Amazon here, but by all means shop-around. Anyway, this is the actual light I am now using and I’m pretty happy with it so far.

HUMIDITY CONTROL: Danby Dehumidifier

A Danby Dehumidifier – we have a smaller Danby and we are pretty happy with it

I’ve included a link here to a Danby Dehumidifier, a pretty powerful one actually, but it’s not the exact one I have – it’s better LOL!
I have a dehumidifier running constantly due to high humidity here on Vancouver Island. They are not the cheapest appliance out there, but if you are living in a humid climate (hello, Wet Coast), you are going to need to do a lot of dehumidification.

We actually own 2 (yes TWO) dehumidifiers, and most of our friends own at least one, just so we don’t live in a sticky, moldy home for the long, rainy winters here. One of ours is a Danby, and they both look almost identical and operate exactly the same.
We’re pretty happy with them but ours are pretty small, so one of my morning tasks is getting up first thing and DUMPING a couple of gallons or so out of the dehumidifier.
It’s amazing how much water I’m pulling out of the air each day!
Also, I’m venting to the same room with the door open to the den and gas fireplace.

FANS: Honeywell HT900C

I have passive intake and Jerry-rigged passive intake on bottom so there are no light leaks.

My 2 Honeywell fans in the upper right

Honeywell HT900C TurboForce® 7″

This is the exact type of fan I bought and am using for my grow.
The price was right and they work just fine.
I actually mounted them onto a board in my tent. You can see them both in the upper right of my tent on this photograph if you look closely.
I like the idea of organic weed.
Seems the least complicated and I may not get the highest yields or the biggest buds but I think I can get some real quality smoke.

FABRIC GROWING BAGS: Vivosun 5-Gallon Bags
VIVOSUN 5 GALLON FABRIC GROW BAGS

I love my grow bags! VIVOSUN 5 GALLON FABRIC GROW BAG

I have made plenty of mistakes, but my grow bags have worked out really well.

I used similar bags over a year ago when I grew a pair of plants outdoors, and I remember thinking that there is just nothing better than these awesome bags.

The plants never have problems with the roots with these bags, since the fabric allows enough light that the roots stop trying to push out, and are “burned off,” once they touch the wall of the bag (roots are photophobic).
You can actually get a decent price on Amazon as I write this, but of course, shop around.

SOIL AMENDMENTS: Growth Science Organics

Growth Science Organics

I use a few different soil amendments for my grow.I will have to write a post all about fertilizing and PH balancing.
In the meantime, these are my products of choice.
Allllll organic.
